I believe it all comes down to finding your passion, a thing you like to dedicate yourself too. Once found you just need to personalize, ridicule or radicalize it a bit. In this way you have the power to surprise, the power to amaze and very often the power to inspire!
So just build your 'castle in the sky', and no matter what people keep on telling you, just put those foundations under them!
To spread the word of some amazing inspirational ideas/travels I will show you some of the things that have inspired me and that I can't get enough of:
Where the hell is Matt?
Matt is an American guy who quit his job as a video game designer, in February 2003, to explore the world outside his computer screen. A few months in his trip while standing around taking pictures in Hanoi, a friend said "Hey, why don't you stand over there and do that dance, I'll record it" referring to a particular dance Matt does.
A couple years later, someone found the video online and passed it to someone else, who passed it to someone else, and so on. After having become a semi-celebrity Matt found a sponsor in 2006. With their financial help he took a 6 month trip through 39 countries on all 7 continents. In that time, he danced a great deal.
Recently he traveled the world again and invited all the people who'd written to him after his first video to come out and dance with him. This resulted in the following awesome compilation video.
As you can see it is just about a simple idea that puts a smile on people's faces. And makes them boogie!
Cyclown circus
The cyclown circus is a bunch of circus artists who, for six years now, have been cycling their modified 'mutant' bikes around the globe from town to town, looking for a place to stay, co-operating with locals and the community while performing and giving workshops in the street or at pre-arranged locations.
They have sustained themselves nearly entirely from the money collected through street shows, and managed to hold their bikes together sometimes simply from bailing wire and scrap metal supporting 100 kilograms of baggage.
They travel by bike because they like cycling, because it is cheap and enables them to stay in touch with the local environment. As they define it themselves: "we travel very slowly. We find this way of traveling rewarding, sometimes blissful, often disasterous, and ridiculously serendipidous." Or as one of their members says "I ride a bike, it's what I like"
Free hugs
The Free Hugs Campaign is a social movement involving individuals who offer hugs to strangers in public places. The campaign in its present form was started in 2004 in Sydney by an Australian man known only by the pseudonym "Juan Mann". The campaign became famous internationally in 2006 as the result of a music video on Youtube by the Australian band Sick Puppies. The hugs, or "junk-food emotion" as Mann calls it, are meant to be a random act of kindness.
Sydney clearly loves its hugger. When local authorities threatened to stop Mann's campaign for public safety reasons, about 10 000 people signed a petition to keep it alive.

Let me stay for a day
Ramon Stoppelenburg left his house in The Netherlands, on May 1, 2001 with a backpack filled with clothing, a digital camera, a laptop, and a mobile phone.
From May 2001 to July 2003 he traveled the world WITHOUT ANY MONEY, visiting people who invited him over through this website. He crossed distances with his thumb (hitchhiking) or with the help of sponsors and supporters. In return for all this support he wrote daily reports about his experiences on his website www.letmestayforaday.com
